Most Memorable Classical Music Performances of 2009

I have compiled a list of my Most Memorable Classical Music Performances of 2009—you can find it in the Dec 24 issue of Metro Pulse. You can read it online here.

As far as 2009 classical recordings, I regret that I cannot offer up a “Best CDs of 2009 List” for I can claim to have heard only a fraction of the many new releases this year. What follows, though, are a few recordings that did come to my attention.

First, two recordings by the amazing soprano Joyce DiDonato:  1) Furore-Handel Opera Arias with Christopher Rousset conducting Les Talen Lyriques (Virgin Classics 19038) and 2) Arias from Rossini operas in Colbran, The Muse with conductor Edoardo Müller leading the Orchestra/Ensemble: Santa Cecilia Academy Rome Orchestra (Virgin Classics 94579)

Second, Beethoven: Piano Concertos with pianist Richard  Goode performing with the Budapest Festival Orchestra under Iván Fischer. (Nonesuch 480508)

Last, Pianist Murray Perahia performing on Bach: Partitas Nos. 1, 5, and 6 (Sony 744361)

Thanks to all for reading!
