The University of Tennessee School of Music has announced that Michael McConnell has accepted the position of Interim Director of Opera, replacing Carroll Freeman who has accepted a position with Georgia State University in Atlanta.
Included among the productions he has directed was the 2004 Knoxville Opera production of Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro. In addition to a number of productions under his directorial belt, McConnell has been equally involved in opera education and the training of young singers. His education credits include the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music, Baldwin-Wallace College’s Conservatory of Music, The Cleveland Institute of Music, where he served as Director of Opera, and an associate professorship in opera at Florida State University’s College of Music from 1995 to 2002.
