Review in Metro Pulse: KSO’s “Gershwin”

I am a huge admirer of the music of George Gershwin.  However, owing to the unique position he holds bridging popular American musical theatre and symphonic forms, there is always a danger that orchestras will use his works as a backdoor means of clandestinely inserting a pops program into a regular schedule to appeal to subscribers. This was certainly not the case with the recent Knoxville Symphony Orchestra’s set of concerts entitled “Gershwin.” I make my point in this week’s Metro Pulse reviews, which are online here.
