New on the Scene: the Stiletto Brass Quintet

You can probably expect to run into this relatively new ensemble sometime in the near future. The Stiletto Brass Quintet consists of five women from around the U.S. — Amy Gilreath (trumpet), Cathy Leach (trumpet), Kelly Langenberg (horn), Jeannie Little (trombone), and Velvet Brown (tuba). I caught them at the Gatlinburg-Pittman Chamber Music Series in Gatlinburg, TN, on their way to perform at the  37th Annual Conference of the International Trumpet Guild. Their program was heavily weighted toward the contemporary brass quintet literature, although they intersperse that with some nice arrangements of jazz and pop standards. Attire-wise, they arrived on stage in black outfits with bright red stilettos–quite a visual statement.
