In Metro Pulse: Preview of ‘The Tales of Hoffmann’ -updated

UPDATE Oct. 30: My review of that production can be read here.

In this week’ issue of Metro Pulse, I preview the upcoming Knoxville Opera production of Jacques Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffmann. That production directed by Keturah Stickann with musical direction by Brian Salesky opens Friday, October 25, at the Tennessee Theatre in downtown Knoxville. Ticket info at knoxvilleopera.com. Read the preview here.

The production features soprano Talise Trevigne who is singing all four of the soprano roles: Olympia, Giuletta, Antonia, and Stella. Trevigne has been recently seen as Pip in Jake Heggie’s Moby Dick which premiered at Dallas Opera in 2010 and was most recently performed by San Francisco Opera.Talise Trevigne3

In the cast, the tenor Evan Bowers appears as  Hoffman, with Boris Van Druff, Markus Beam, Kevin Thompson, and Leah Kaye Serr singing multiple roles.
