Thursday evening’s recital at the Powell Recital Hall on the UT campus by the violinist Miroslav Hristov ( UT faculty violinist) and the harpist Cindy Hicks (principal harp of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra) opened quite a few eyes and ears, particularly in one work for violin and harp previously unknown to this writer.

The duo’s program opened with the Sonata for Violin and Harp in C Minor by Louis Spohr and Saint-Saëns’ Fantasia for Violin and Harp. The second half consisted of a delightful find for this writer, contemporary Ukrainian composer Valeri Kikta’s Sonata for Violin and Harp, a work of textural extremes and energies.
