Brahms and Beethoven

I previously posted news of the retirement of Mark Zelmanovich as Concertmaster of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra.  My profile of Zelmanovich is in the January 7 issue of Metro Pulse and online here.

He will be honored at concerts this week in which guest violinist Rachel Barton Pine will perform the Brahms Concerto in D Major for Violin and Orchestra, Op. 77.  Also on this week’s concerts are Brahms’ Tragic Overture and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4.  The conductor is Lucas Richman.

The Beethoven Fourth will be reprised later in the month (January 24th, 2:30 p.m. at the Bijou Theatre) by the Knoxville Symphony Chamber Orchestra along with another repeat, Haydn’s Symphony No. 16 in B-flat Major.

Featured on that same program will be pianist David Northington performing the Mozart Piano Concerto No. 9 in E-flat Major, K. 271.
